What would be the “GOALS and MISSIONS” of “MIS” in a large or small Business Firm? Please leave me a detailed and reasonable answer that would help me out in a business firm.

Ooooh, missions. I’m having a Dilbert moment. But I digress.

A lot of what your goals and missions will consist of is dependant upon what your responsibilities are. For example, if you are working for a large financial institution where downtime is measured in the millions of dollars per minute, a goal might be 99.999% network uptime, with a mission of dodging your bosses’ boot when you do go down. For a smaller business, a goal might be to complete Y2K preparations, implement a business-wide e-mail solution, etc.

I think what you need to do to come up with your own answer is think about what you do, and what the business needs. Then make that your goal. Then think about what the business wants, and make that your mission. Every business is different – there’s no sense in using someone else’s goal.

And if all that fails, check out the Dilbert Mission Statement generator at http://www.unitedmedia.com. 🙂

      Regards,

I am MIS Manager serving about 50 users.

Goals & Missions are a combination of continuing past service & improving future service.

Last year’s mission was zero tolerance for downtime. We accomplished that & do not have a mission for this year. I still not quite recovered from Y2K – I managed to install 3,000 patches in 4 months & towards the end I was getting guggy patches that I had to fix before installing.

I suspect that next year’s mission statement will be related to $$$ since alot is being thrown at some hardware upgrades at present.

I tell my co-workers that the computer system is a train carrying the company into the future & I am the train engineer trying to make the ride as fast & as smooth as possible, and if there ever is any disruption, I will continue the ride as rapidly as I can.

      They like that mission statement.
