Google testing

By RexWorld ·
We recently turned on the ability to post an url into these discussion posts. I wonder if we've inadvertantly given folks a way to bump the Google PageRank of their own sites.

Builder.com has a fairly high PageRank (it was an 8 the last time I used my Google Toolbar). So what if people now use our discussion board to post links back to their own sites. Will that improve their PageRank in turn?

I'm gonna try it out--here's my personal site, Rexworld.com:

Don't think this will bump page rank

by Dan Cooperstock In reply to Google testing

I really doubt putting a link into a page in a discussion forum will bump page rank. Although Google may look at Builder.com a lot, I really wonder whether they would go down as far as all of the pages of a discussion thread very often.

On a different point, with the current stylesheet those URL links are pretty much illegible, being dark blue text on a black background!

Stylesheet bug

by RexWorld In reply to Don't think this will bum ...

Yeah, it's on the list but unfortunately right now the focus is on improving TechRepublic's Discussion Center. Once that clears I can get somebody to fix the style sheet. It's a bit delicate since that style is used other places, so we probably will have to change the Jive template instead to use a different style.

It should work

by keith In reply to Google testing

Technically it should work. Google will se the link on this site as a "vote" for the other page.
