Grey Lines on Display

By kenton.koran ·
A while back, our display developed grey lines to the left and right of images (text, graphics, etc.). The darker the image, the darker the grey line. Changing monitors didn't correct the problem. We're running Windows 98se. Any idea what the problem could be and how to fix it?

One quick fix may be to change the Refresh rate in your Display properties. Right-click on your desktop (not on a shortcut Icon) and select Properties | Settings | Advanced | Monitor and lower yuor screen refresh rate.

If that doesn't work, try reloading your display drivers. Last resort, replace the video controller card.

Good luck! :)

If the lines are like a smear going to the right of the image (usually), the problem is your video card. Usually if you are in the DOS mode, it doesn't display, but in the Windows mode, you have the smear. Usually caused by a damaged video processor, just replace the video card.

Hope this helps,

Vickie

Try both answers if they dont work run scan disk ether from win98 or the dos prompt. Also try it from a boot disk. Windows has a problem with video it seems to let corrupt video imput to keep going with out finding or fixing it.
