GRUG without X windows?

Can I install GRUG without X windows?
I don't want to install X windows on my old box.

Could you expand on GRUG, as in what it does, and how it does this? If you are referring to GRUB, as in the GRand Unified Bootloader, yes you can install GRUB without using X. If all you need is a commandline driven Linux/Unix machine with Windowson the other side for occasional use, or just Linux alone, GRUB will happily live without the offices of the X server component. Without X it will default to text based message. Just boot the machine in runlevel three, or single user mode. Voila,NO X! Good Luck.
