Hard disk problem

By rexmen72 ·
Hey guys, i have a problem with my 30gig seagate hd, it had a bad cluster and i cant boot up in windows, so i used fdisk to remove the partition, when its at 6% i hangs up, so i formatted it and it only formatted 8 gig, then i used scandisk and surface scan, now windows cannot read my hd. what should i do? (just bought it 6 months ago and i cant return it coz i lost my receipt)

Does the BIOS support the 30gig hard drive, you may need to flash the BIOS
Insert the startup disk and at command prompt type fdisk /mbr
Now run FDISK,and enable large disk support
Choose to partition the hard drive
Reboot and insert cd-rom and install with cd-rom support,it should do a system and notify you of the bad sectors,it is a long process but it should work
The other option would be to use a third party software such as Norton Disk Doctor or hard drive diagnostic tool from Seegate to fix the bad sectors.

I have returned drives to seagate without a receipt. Go to there web page and check to see if it is under warranty. If it is request a RMA. If that does not work then go to www.bootdisk.com and download a program to Wipe\ZAP your drive. This program will put all zero. Format and fdisk does not alway wipe all the partition info.
