Hard Drive Difference

My old internal hard drive is not working well so, i’m planning to buy a new internal hard drive and replace it. and i want to know that i can replace with any type of hard drive like different GB. or it has to be the same as old one.

Generally newer systems, 1 to 2 years old max, could take nearly any type of ide drive. As you get older, and cheaper, you will run into problems with drive speed, drive size, and the like.

If you know your system is less than 2 years, you should be ok to get anything in the under 200 gig range, and if less than that, should be able to go to 500 gig… but be preparred if you stick it in, and it doesn’t see the drive, that you might have to look for smaller sized…

if you want to post system specs, it would help narrow the choices..

If brand named, the name and model, if generic, as much info you have about the system and parts that went into it, most imporant is usually the brand and model of system mainboard (motherboard) used.

You might try erasing the operating system and reinstalling it along with the drivers and so on.You would have to do this anyways with the new drive.The new drive has jumpers that have to be set correctly,you would be better off getting a new computer.(note:I think that in the real BIOS you can individually stripe the plates in a hard drive’s housing.I suspect that that there are all kinds of adjustments here like bit voltage.)
