Hard drive doesn't exist

By ivicagor ·
it's gateway laptop mt3422 with Windows XP SP2,160GB HDD

I worked with some programs like "partition magic" and after I rebooted my laptop my HDD can't start any more(like it doesn't exist).
I tried with installation CD for Vista and XP but it says that I have 160 GB unallocated space and can't install OS.
any ideas?

So what did you do with Partition Magic here?

By the sounds of things you have altered the Partition Information to prevent the computer from accessing the HDD.

You may need to remove the HDD from this computer to fix the mess that you have made here.

If you have deleted the Primary Partition and wish to create more later try this by pressing Enter after each command. Adjust size=20000 to the required size. 20000=20GB 30000=30GB etc.....

Boot from your XP CD and press the first R to enter the Recovery Console.

using DiskPart. For example, from a command prompt, type:
diskpart
select disk 0
clean
create partition primary size=20000
select partition 1
active
Now type
EXIT to exit the diskpart session

If you have only turned off Activation for the Primary Partition try this.

Boot from your XP CD and press the first R to enter the Recovery Console.

At the recovery command prompt type in these commands pressing the Enter key after each one.

diskpart
select disk 0
select partition 1
active
Now type
EXIT to exit the diskpart session
