Hard Drive FAT & MBR rewritten

By ddelauder ·
Windows 98 Second Edition system, while installing the Symetec Norton Systemworks 2002 which includes the program Go Back 3.0, the program Go Back rewrote my FAT and MBR for my hard drive and now I am unable to access anything off of the hard drive.
I have contacted Symetec / Norton and they do not even respond to my questions at all.
Is there any way to recover the data from the hard drive or to reinstall the MBR and FAT?

No, I can not boot up to norton cd as it only runs when Windows is up and running.
I can only boot up using the A drive boot disk as the system will not recognize either of my hard drives on this system ever since I installed Go Back on to my system.
And I thought Norton was supposed to solve problems on my system, not create problems.

hopefully you have yet to follow the other response. a fdisk mbr on a goback partition will wipe out your hard drive. here are the instructions from symantec for removing it if you cannot boot. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/docid/2001092611363307

as always remove all spaces from the link above to open the page.

good luck!

What you may want to do is try to reinstall Win98. If your system still does not boot, you may have to wipe your hard drive. usually if your FAT goes, your partition will go with it. If this occurs, the only remedy is to repartition and reformat your hard drive, which will remove EVERYTHING from your disk. after which, you can reinstall your operating system.

That is an unexceptable solution.
