Hardware Profiles ???

By Tonywildcat17 ·
I was trying to put 2 different hardware profiles on my laptop. One is for work and the other is for home. I have a different default gateway and mapped drives at work than I do at home. I logged in using the work profile and changed my gateway and mapped the drives, but when I changed to my home profile, it had changed as well. How do I get them to be different?? Do I need to use different user profiles instead of hardware?

Hardware Profiles ???

Mapped drives are based on user profile.

Hardware profiles allow you to use different hardware based on the profile chosen. They usually do not allow you to have different settings for the same hardware (this is especially true for NICs).

Youmight try adding a second NIC. This would allow you to have different network settings (IP address, primary DNS server, default gateway) for each NIC.

Tim says most of what you need to know. For simplicity it is often easier to set up two users eacxh with a seperate profile as well as the two NICs.

Ok. I was hoping that I could do it by hardware profiles, but I figured that I would have to use 2 different user profiles instead. Thank you both.
