Check your config.sys file to see if you load a cdrom device.
If yes, remove the line.
If no, find out what your chipset is.
Go to the site of Asus (www.asus.com).
Download the IDE Driver file corresponding
to your motherboard, and install it.This sould make the remove and reinstallation of your Hdd drivers.

Do you need further explanation on how to do all this ?

Follow the troubleshooting outlined in the Microsoft article......
It should help.
Troubleshooting MS-DOS Compatibility Mode on Hard Disks (Q130179)

Go to support.microsoft.com, click on search options and search by article number Q130179.

Hope this helps..

Also, what was the ghosted image created on? It may be that you just need to install you chipset drivers for your system board.

If you ghosted your machine with an image that didn't contain the same hardware then you are having a driver problem. Try two things 1. do a Registry search for the term "noide" without the quotes. If found, delete. Then remove the controllers in device manager, reboot, and hopefully Win98 will recognize your hardware and install the correct drivers. If your Mobo is very new then you will probably have to download the correct drivers from the manufacturer's website.
