HDD temp sensor?

By ozi Eagle ·
Hi,
I've just come across something I've never seen before. Its a brass thingummy that looks like the post that plug retaining screws go into. It has two wires coming from it which presumably connect to the mobo somewhere. This device is screwed into a spare mounting hole on the HDD.
I surmise that its a temperature sensor.

Has anyone any knowledge of these?

Sure sounds like or god forbid a case grounding strap!

What manufacturer and model disk is it and maybe someone can research it up?

Thanks.
I don't think that its a grounding strap, as there are two wires coming out the top, with a drop of epoxy sealing them in.
I didn't get any manufacturers' data, as I was on site last night.
It appears to be a mobo or case device, rather than a HDD device.

I don't want anyone to go to any trouble to find out, I was just curious.

From your description, sure sounds like a temperature probe. Two samall wires <0.5 in. long with epoxy casing on ends (for thermocouple) would be a temperature sensor.

That's "small wires" not samall wires.
