What do you mean by 'speaker jack'? I have never heard of it. Are you referring to the Line In, or microphone jack?

So what happens when you plug the Headphones into the Speaker Jack?

They should work.

Not sure what you're asking

what is in there is a switching stereo mini jack.

normally tip1 and tip2 connectors are looped thru to the internal L/R speakers, and if you plug in headphones, that opens the switch and the tip1/tip2 sends audio to headphones. The ring (ground) does not get switched.

The obvious fix is to buy a replacement headphone jack.

Installing a switch and another headphone jack would require another two holes out of the side of the laptop and a place to mount the new switch and new jack. You would then need a DPDT switch and a three wire plus one four or six wire cable coming out of the side of the laptop. Three wires would handle the new headphone jack, and the other four or six wire cable would be the switch.

Some laptops have the jack on the motherboard and some on a separate sub-board. In either case you need to take the laptop apart, remove the board it's soldered to, and remove the old jack, solder in and route the wiring for the new switch and jack, then reassemble.
