Headset Microphone Problem

By Julien4 ·
I have done some troubleshooting to solve this problem. I took the Windows ME Voice Test on the microphone. The message tells me that I can hear people talking to me on the speakers but that they will not be able to hear me.

At this time, I cannot use voice communication and I am bound to the keyboard. I have tested the headset microphone on other computers and the system works. No faulty microphone or headset.

2 things to check.

In the mixer panel, make sure that the micrphone is not muted, or that the level is not set to low.

Some microphones and sound cards do not work well together. Some microphones require a BIAS voltage to work. check the settings for the sound card to see if you can enable either a bias voltage, or a volume / gain boost.

First, check to see if your mic is the recording source. In the mixer panel, click the Options menu and choose Properties. Click the Recording option and then click the OK button. You'll see a list of recording devices according to the installed sound card and volume levels. Under the volume levels is a checkbox so that you can select the device as a source. A pretty good way to test your mic is to use the Sound Recorder program. You can record and playback(no need to save anything!!)and see just how good or bad your mic is working.

Have Fun!!!
