Help me help a friend.....

By JamesRL ·
I have a friend in Southern California who has just lost his position.

He has 10 years of progressive IT experience, and at his last position was a Senior Systems Engineer, setting up large AD forests, supporting Citrix Servers, supporting Server and desktop OSs.

He is a Gulf War Vet, ITIL certified and MCP.

He lives in the greater LA area.

First off, if you have contacts in that area, ask them if they are looking.

Secondly, if you know the area and know resources to help his job search, let me know. He hasn't had to job hunt much before, so its a learning curve for him.

I'm going to help him work on his resume and polish it up a bit.

Any assistance or advice gratefully received, feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.

James

ITIL Certified

by Tig2 In reply to Help me help a friend.... ...

James, I'm from that area. I have an email out now and will forward you anything I get.

Have your friend get in touch with the local ITIL portal group as well as with the local PMI. They will be able to help him start networking.

He also wants to keep an ear on the studios. Burbank especially.

What was his last industry?

There is an awful lot out there. Have him get registered to Monster and Dice immediately so that he can get a feel for what is looking out there. He should also be talking to some of the better shops. When I lived there, Yoh and Rohr were both highly rated.

I'll PM you as I get answers back. Till then I will keep him in my prayers.

I'm working with him as we speak on the resume. As I mention in the other posts the industry was large accounting firms.

if he'd be willing to work in OC. we need a PC guy which sounds like might be below his skill level but the network guy might want someone with more skills to help, we have same stuff.

What's his industry?

by jmgarvin In reply to Help me help a friend.... ...

Tell him to check out FrontRange (www.frontrange.com). We need Devs, PMs, Consultants, etc. He'd have to move to the East Bay (we're in Pleasanton about 10 miles west of Livermore).

We have rolling jobs on Dice and if you check our website we have job postings there too.

That ITIL cert will do him a ton of good if he can get a DOE or DOD job as well.

Last two positions

by JamesRL In reply to What's his industry?

Were with big accounting firms. I will let him know about Frontrange.

His last job and home are both south of LA, but not very close, so a commute doesn't scare him I think.

Thanks, appreicate the thought.

My company has offices in LA and San Diego... let me check.

Does he have any medical background?

No but thanks

San Diego might be a bit far unless he wants to move.

Both the firms he has worked for since 2000 are big accounting firms, so size wise he has experience with large scale stuff.

Okay, I'll look into my connections in the finance industry.

I'm sure one of us TR folks will be able to come through.

Update

by JamesRL In reply to Help me help a friend.... ...

My friend has been applying to many jobs, but not getting my feedback yet. His resume is up to date.

He has been out 3 weeks now, and now getting nervous, with the housing market dropping he is in a tight financial predicament.

Let me know, I can provide a resume on request.
