Help! Seeking a position in IT Management

    Locked

    by email_quick ·

    Hello All,

I would like to transition from being a Senior Developer (10 years) to IT/Project Management. I have recently graduated with Master of Science in Management (Specialization: IT Managemnt).

I am currently seeking a position in IT/Project Management (Entry-level/Intermediate).

I definitely need a transition into IT management as I am getting really bored of programming and moreover there is absolutely no career growth in my current company.

Any assistance in relevant job sites/job postings/career links/recruiter information/advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

      Management

Is a totally different position and life style. You need to look at what they do and what you do first. They may never work on coding or even help with it. They need to know it but most do not get their hands dirty buy doing it. Yes some are hands on but most have allot of other thing to worry about.
I have been an IT director and manager; it is not what I like. I like doing things with computers and helping users, it becomes a thing that most managers can not do because of every thing that they have to do.
If you still seek a management career you need to go back to school and get an MBA, take classes on managing people. And learn to be a person that makes others want to do a good job.

This is a partisan firm with left-leaning clients. Please feel free
to post this job to other appropriate lists or forward to your
friends, family, colleagues, friends of friends, friends of family,
      colleagues of friends, etc., etc.

      Lead .NET Developer/Architect

Are you an experienced .NET developer with a proven track record of
leading successful design and development projects? Are you tired of
work without real meaning and ready for something challenging?
We’re a small, but market-leading, political technology company
looking for someone with interests in and experience with the latest
Microsoft technologies, specifically SQL Server 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0.

The right candidate will be able to weigh business decisions against
technical ones and will participate in determining product-definition
and feature set in conjunction with senior management. You will
influence the entire technical direction of our firm.

The lead developer position is about half architecture/design and half
actual coding, with full managerial/supervisory duties. If you don’t
want to get your hands dirty with code, this is probably not the job
for you; but if you do enjoy getting knee-deep in the actual coding,
      keep reading.

      Primary Responsibilities:
–Development, definition & maintenance of our software architecture,
      coding standards, and design standards.
–Review existing software architecture and identify areas for
improvement with a focus scalability, maintainability, and performance.
–Create technical specifications for new product features.
–Design and develop key technical components, APIs, and UI elements
      of products.
–Create and direct the development plan & milestones, as well as the
successful implementation of the architecture and standards with each
      relevant release.
–Set standards for implementation, coding, and deployment activities.
–Problem ownership and resolution; provide risk mitigation plans for
      technical implementation alternatives.
–Manage version control and documentation procedures.
–Develop and maintain cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility.
–Investigate and evaluate new architectures, Web features and tools
which might be useful for expanding our product offerings.
–Research and evaluate partnership opportunities to enhance our
      systems strategic value to customers.
–Evaluate and recommend 3rd party tools and components when necessary.
–Lead the engineering team in the design and development of new
product features, providing architectural leadership and guidance to
      reduce schedule risk.
–Mentor and guide the development team in the adoption and use of
      best practices and design patterns.
      –Manage senior and junior developers.

      Qualifications:
–Track record of leading development teams in the delivery of high
quality products in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
–Expert in architecting, designing and leading the development of new
      products in emerging markets.
–10+ years of experience in software development with 5+ years as
architect or lead developer and independent architectural/design
responsibilities in at least one large multi-tier project.
–Demonstrated ability to lead senior and junior developers.
      –Experience developing functional specifications.
–Comfortable in hands-on role developing using .NET.
–Thorough knowledge of Microsoft software development framework and
related development environments; MCSD/MCAD certification highly
      preferred.
–Demonstrated experience with VB.NET on ASP.NET 1.1 platform and SQL
      Server 2000
–Strong understanding of IIS and ASP.net deployment required.
–Experience with some or all: ASP.NET 2.0, Visual Studio 2005, SQL
Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services, ADO.NET, MSMQ; HTML,
XML, XSLT, DHTML, __Javascript; DBMS; C#, C, COM/COM+; Data Dynamics
      Active Reports.
–Knowledge and experience of OO Development methodology in n-tiered
      Client /Server/Web based environments.
–Some experience with legacy ASP extremely helpful.
      –Experience with version-control systems.
–Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills; effective and
efficient oral and written communication skills.
–Ability to interact positively and effectively with employees at all
      levels within the organization.
–BS in computer science or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
–Athletic skills in table tennis, foosball, frisbee or softball optional.
      We offer:
–The opportunity to be a key contributor in a small, entrepreneurial
      firm in a niche market.
–Downtown Washington DC location, 2 blocks from the Metro.
–Casual work environment–no dress code, free sodas and chocolate in
      the kitchen!
–Health insurance, 401k plan, pre-tax transportation benefits, paid
      personal time off.
