    Help with Trojan Horse virus

Is there any way to rid a Trojan Horse from a machine, besides remming the files or re-installing the O/S?

There are still characters in the two infected files I thought I remmed

Being that it is a trojan,it would be best to re-install the operating system to clean it out because the fact that it spreads by attaching itself to programs and their is no way of knowing how far it has spreaded.
In renaming you cnnot be sure whether you are renaming a file that is cloaking itself,as a legitimate program,in this case I would reformat to be on the safer side and clear the system.Good Luck

You are not getting rid of the virus by rem the files. The virus has infected other files as well and will continue to infect other files.

You need to get an Anti-Virus software, like Norton Anti-Virus, or McAfee VirusScan. It will scan your harddrive and remove the viruses.

Good luck and have a great day.

      Hi there,

How come you are so scare about Trojan? Remming the files can’t help you. And re-install is the last solution if other solution won’t help. However, most of the time you don’t need to reinstall. Why run away? Get some anti-virus software and fight ! Using a anti virus software as easy as checking your email. Just click some buttons and it will run, scan the files, and delete virus itself.
And remember, even the antivirus software can’t detect the virus (this’s rare, are you sure there are Trojan in you computer? ), any time, you can use your last solution – format the hard drive and reinstall (this sure will get rid of all virus, and all of your files too).

      Hope this help,

In my history of doing some technical support over the phone and over the Internet, most victims got the trojan virus through email attachments/IRC.

What I usually recommend them to do is to use any anti-virus programs. Make sure that the virus definitions are updated to be able to repair the infected files and delete this virus. Reformatting the hard disk drive and re-install the programs are the last options.

Again, make sure you have the updated anti-virus program so that you can be able to detect it before it spreads havoc in your computer.

Consider this as a lesson learned.

Don’t run away from the problem by formating the hard drive. If you are not using a good reputable anti-virus program that you update the virus definitions on regularly, shame on you, get one. It is worth it weight in gold as far as stress reduction.

Sometimes you can’t install virus protection software on an already infected machine so goto the Symantec Virus Encyclopedia at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html and find your trojan and it will give very detailed instructions on removing the virus.

      Good Luck
