Home networking

I have a desktop PC and a laptop. I am trying to network he two but I am havig problems. I have a dsl modem, a wireless router and card for the latop and the desktop is connected through one of the ports on the router. They both get internet connection, however, they do not recognize (or see) eac other on the network. Help me figure this out.

Mapping works just as well

once both PC are on the same network/workgroup, just map a drive to the root of the other PC.

Go to 'Tools'
'Map Network Drive"
Pick a letter
Type '\\ComputerName\C$'
(Note: be sure to click "reconnect at logon" so you will no thave to go through this procedure again).

Make sure your firewall is off or allows

If the windows or other software firewall is on, you will not get onto the other computer.

Network neighborhood won't broadcast because it isn't a routable protocol and takes up way too much bandwidth (chatty).

This sharing also works best if you give your PC a static IP address.
