How can I get Dual Monitors to function correctly?

By sbrager ·
I've been running Win7 with a Radeon HD5670 graphics card and a single monitor connected with a DVI cable - no problems.

I recently got a 2nd monitor and connected it to the HD5670 HDMI port with the supplied dongle which converts to a DVI female. A 2nd DVI cable goes from the dongle to the DVI port on the 2nd monitor.

When the computer was started, the first monitor looked normal until splash screen when I saw my background picture but there was nothing else. The 2nd monitor didn't show anything nor was the signal light change to green.

When the HDMI cable was unplugged, the 1st monitor showed the proper screen.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Stan

Have you installed the Catalyst Control Center?

The correct way to setup any Dual Monitor with ATI Video Cards is in that Software that is supplied with the Video Card.

It could also be your DVI cable if you do have the catalyst control center installed and configured right. One cable has the analog pins and the other doesn't have it. I expect the HDMI is purely a digital signal coming out of it. Also check your resolution and frequency settings.

Thanks. That's a good thought. However, the cable is DVI-D Dual Link which is digital only. That's why this problem is so perplexing.

The problem is resolved. It was something quite simple - the 2nd monitor had been configured internally as an analog display. Pressing a button on the front of the monitor switched it to digital mode.

Thanks to all who responded.
