How can I install Windows via LAN?

By GenCopy ·
My computer has an empty hard disk and has no CDROM but it is connected to LAN. Can I install Windows via network and what minimum number of files I need for it in addition to files from Windows boot disk?

Use the NT Network Client Manager in Windows NT, in Win2000 you have to install the RIS (Remote Installation Service).
NT: Copy the Client Setup Files from the CD and follow the steps in the Client Manager.

hope that helps

If you are connected and can see drives on the network. Share the cdrom (network/server)or copy the win9x folder and all contents to something you can allready access. Either copy the win9x to the computer in question,or get to the win9x directory and type setup. How are you conn. win3.1 dos ???
if win3.1 you need the upgrade disk. dos needs to be compatible.

Easy- We do it every summer...
Either - Ghost <amen for the invention of that software>
Or get the DOS disk drivers for your NIC - And depending on how you connect to your network - We for example, load the IPX driver and then VLM to connect to a Novell network -
Login - and install from there - You can even automate the install if needed using the setup "batch file".

If you're running Novell, here's what you need on your boot floppy disk:

HIMEM.SYS
CONFIG.SYS
(DEVICE=A:\HIMEM.SYS)
NET.CFG (consult your sys admin)
LSL.EXE
<NIC DRIVER>.COM
IPXODI.COM
NETX.EXE

For NT, you need to run MS Client for DOS.
