How can I print back to a wireless printer through remote session?

By jhenderson ·
I am trying to help a client with a Windows 7 64 bit laptop, connected through a vpn connetion, and remoted in to an XP pro computer. She is wanting to print back to her wireless HP1525 on her home network. Also her laptop is connected to her network with wireless. I have shared her printer and tried connecting with the share name and her vpn asigned ip address with no result. Not sure how I can get the remote computer to see inside her network to that printer. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Thanks, Johnny

There's a saying "you can't get there from here"

An important security feature of most VPN solutions preventing a covert communications channel from being established. The ability to establish a second communications channel is called enabling 'split-tunnel'. In order to print, the VPN connected device would need to establish a second communications channel, since the printer is not on the same subnet as the PC, when it's connected to the VPN.

With the blessing of whoever administers the VPN, split-tunneling can be enabled, which adds to the security risk (since, for example, a keystroke-logging trojan virus could communicate outbound on a split tunnel), and that will let you print.
