How Do I Automate Finding Local Admins On XP Machines?

By scoobyjones ·
Hi - Thanks in advance for all help given.

I have been asked to gather information on our network as to which users are local administrators on their own PCs.

I am currently thinking the only way I can do this is to Manage My Computer, Connect to their computer using their IP address and then look in the Administrator Group under local users and groups.

This is a very manual and time consuming process. Can it be automated in any way?

There's a few network utilities, like Hyena ( that will go thru all machines in a domain and pull all sorts of reports, including the users in the local admins groups. I think the DameWare Utilities can do the same thing, but I don't have them handy right now and can't check.

If you're good with scripting, using ADSI it will not be too hard to create/find a script that will iterate in all machines in a domain and enumerate the members of that group.
