What type of network connection?

by robo_dev In reply to How do i connect my netwo ...

If you are talking about Ethernet, then you use what's called a punch-down tool to connect the individual wires to both the ethernet plug on the end of the cable as well as the ethernet jack in the wall. Often a package of ethernet jacks will come with a simple plastic punch-down tool, as it's similar to a small flat-blade screwdriver.

the most common pair-sequence for the wires is called EIA-568B, which is outlined in the following link:

hi

The wiring pairing and termination will depend on what type of therthernet wire you plan to make (theres Type A , type B and cross over and others as well,
for a basic straight thru (really all you have to do is ensure you do the same wiring pattern on both ends of the wire. heres some more info

And of course he could be using PowerLine networking, which would limit the colors to black, white, and green, here in the States, anyway....

Of course he has probably pried the door to the telco closet in his apartment building off, and has found an Ethernet switch....now he's trying to figure out how to connect his phone line to the switch with little more than TR to guide him.

And I resisted the temptation to advise him to weld, solder, or use large quantities of construction adhesive to connect the cable to the connector and/or socket.

GBIC/SFP/X2 ? Which standard 1000BaseSX, 1000BaseLX, 1000BaseTX ? Could also be DWDM of 10Gbps, 40Gbps or even 100Gbps

God I love the sound of Liebert's in the morning (through the earplugs).
