how do speed up client login time to a windows server 2003

By maxwell_zc ·
I want to know how to speed up client login time to a windows server 2003. This is in a client / server environment. What tweaks are recommended on the server side to speed up this process. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

How slow is the current login?

by XT John In reply to how do speed up client lo ...

My first question would be how long is your current logins? We're running 18 servers of various speeds, all 2003, and the login times aren't much different joined to a domain or running local. First thing I would do is check the Event logs on the server and client machines to see if there are any authentication problems. This will bring the login to a slow crawl...
Are you using roaming profiles, terminal services or connecting over a WAN?

windows client login

The client's TCP/IP configuration needs to have the server's IP as the first DNS entry.

It's taking a long time because it's looking for the Domain Controller.

Try the following, after the computer boots until Windows, wait 5 minutes. Does it still take long for the login process?
Have you checked the login script? [tip: you can use IP addresses instead of server names which reduces DNS call-ups]
Maybe your DNS servers have issues? NOt enough/too busy? Incorrect configuration?
Event logs in the workstation or server for errors?
