How I can edit boot configuration using BCDEDIT ?

By aliyalcin ·
Hello

Is there a chance to change PATH value of an identifier located in BCD? I.E , I want to change the path of my current bootloader \windows\system32\winload.exe to my USB Flash Drive?

But I'm unsure if I use F: letter in this situation. I guess I need to use my USB's identifier to change the bootloader's path? As I learned my identifier it is something like this :

F: (\\?\Volume{2379871c-294a-11e0-bd51-00241dcf9d2f})

I got the value when I applied BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 F: command and CMD.

I hope I explained what I want. I want to point WINLOAD.EXE directly to my USB's root.

Thanks a lot.

Not the method for what you want to do.

Install windows boot loader on the USB. Point the loader on the USB to boot the HDD. Remove boot loader from HDD, or set the partition as not active. Set BIOS to boot only from USB.

You don't point anything anywhere. If there is no boot loader on the HDD, BIOS looks for it elsewhere. It will find it on your USB. The bootloader runs on the USB, and asks you what OS you want to boot. Likely the only choices are the Windows OS on the HDD, and maybe an OEM recovery partition or Windows recovery console.

How will I put the loader to USB? Is it enough just to copy WINLOAD.EXE to usb? Is not there anything to do more?
