How To Add A Background Pattern

By Man@Large ·
In the Display Properties, In the Background Tab, I've found the path to add Wallpapers (C:\WINDOWS\WEB\Wallpaper). However, I cannot locate where to add Background Patterns. Maybe I just don't understand, in Patterns there is an Edit Button, but I only seem to be able to change the existing pattern's names. How do I add patterns?

1. Pick a pattern, any pattern.

2. Click on Edit Pattern.

3. Change it to suit your fancy.

4. Where it says "Name", overtype it with the name of your choice.

5. When it asks if you want to save the new pattern, say yes.

See here (it specifies WINNT but works with 95/98 too):

Actually step 5 should be:

5. When you're done editing the pattern and have given it a name, click Add, then Done. It'll now be on th elist.

When you hit the "Add"-button you can find your wallpaper under c:\Windows. But you can also find wallpapers under other location too. If you go to "start"-button, and then "search", "Find file or folders" you will get a window where you can search for filename or filetype (ex. gif/jpg etc.). You will then get a list over all your picture you have on your computer. When you have located the picture you want to use as a wallpaper you can do two things:
1: You can use "Add"-button and go to the folder that the picture is in.
": You can copy/move it to the folder C.\Windows. In this folder lies all your wallpapers original. You may also get the question "Do you want to show Active Desktop?". If this question appear when you are changing wallpaper you can hit "Yes" button. You can change this back later.
I hope this will help you a bit more, but if there is something you're wandering about, mail me at terje@trdesk.com
