How to alter Outlook splash screen info?

By mkfME ·
I upgraded an NT 4 PC from Outlook 98 to Outlook 2K. Apparently when I entered the info when I set up the user, after installing under the admin profile, I mis-spelled the user's name, so each time the program loads, the splash screen shows the mis-spelling. I tried re-installing, uninstalling/re-installing and searched the registry for the mis-spelling, all to no avail. Now I know this isn't important in the grand scheme of things, but I've just gotta know - is there some way short of reformatting the drive to change that info on the splash screen - where the heck _is_ it? Put me out of my misery please!

The registry key to look for would be HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OUTLOOK 2K
the user id should be in the list and you should be able to right click on it and delete

Unacceptable is a bit strong, but we're not there yet: the closest thing I find to the key you reference is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook. This may be because this was an upgrade to an existing Office Pro 97 installation? There is a UserData entry of 0x00000001 [1]. I find no UserID entry there. The only place I find a mention of Outlook 2000 in the registry is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\User information. Ideas?

An easier way is to go into Tools - Options - User Information in WORD. Retype the name and voila! the next time the user opens Outlook the name will be correct.

This does not work - changing the info in Word has no effect on Outlook. Perhaps because the Outlook 2K upgrade was to an Office 97 installation?

The other idea which I thought was not fesible was to delete, and recreate.
Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\5\Outlook or use the key you mentioned
Create a new DWORD value called No Splash and setting the value to 00 00 00 01
Withe outlook go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{a number in curly braces}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook\5 and make a New DWORD with the name No Splash and the value set to 1
The Window title is in the same location;NEW>String Value NamedWindow Title

Actually, a modification of your first answer did the trick. I got sidetracked with more urgent matters so it took a while to get back to this. Thanks for your help!
