The easy answer here is to backup all your Data & Settings and then run the Recovery Partition to return the system to As New Condition where you can correctly enter your Name and so on.

If you try this make sure that you are logged in with Admin Privileges. You can not make these changes without being the Administrator. 😉

      The easiest option

      by jay_pee666 ·

In reply to How to change name windows 7 which was wrongly input

would be to create a new account on the computer and do a settings and data transfer using Windows Easy Transfer from account to account! Delete the old account. All in all this will not take long depending on the size of your profile.

Also, to the previous posters, please read the question before answering. The question was how to change the User name, not the pc name!!

That last part is a bit harsh don’t you think? I mean, NOWHERE in the
original question did the OP mention “User name”…only “my name”…
Please read the question before answering.

As for changing to your correct name…depends on which “name” you
are desiring a change. If just the “User” name, the Jay’s method works.
If it is the “Registered Owner” name, then you can follow Col’s method,
OR, while running as Adminstrator, fire up Regedit from the Run command,
look for all references to the mistyped name, and change each to the
        desired name.

        What?

Any of the above methods will work and it doesn’t rely on the CPU or Installed RAM but it most defiantly does rely on logging in as a Administrator. 😉

Hi. I got this from the microsoft site, had the same issue, was easier than I thought.

      1. Log in by using another administrative account.
Note You may need create a new administrative account at first.
      2. Go to the C:\users\ folder and rename the sub folder with the original user name to the new user name.
      3. Go to registry and modify the registry value ProfileImagePath to the new path name.
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\\
      4. Log out and log in again by using the user whose name is changed, and the user should use the pervious profile with new path name.
