how to change passwords for domain trust

By Seadogs ·
Can someone give me a quick run through of the steps to change a password in a complete trust nt 4 sp6 domain? We have 3 domains with a-b trusting each other and b-c trusting each other both ways. I remember something about there being a specific order for setting the passwords. Can anyone verify this? Thanks!

Don't understand your problem. With the trusts in place the PDC's take care of changing the password. This is a system level process. Why are you attempting to change them?

what we're going to want to do is change the domain passwords. We'd like to keep all the trusts up and running. Last time we did this I remember there were some problems - one domain could connect to the other, but not vice-versa. Just want to make sure we're following the correct process. So you're saying that all we need to do is change the administrator password on the PDC's? Would you recommend going into the administrator account and just changing the password? I thought there was a password for the trust somewhere as well? Thanks!

With a complete trust model, all a user has to do is successfully logon to one of the domains, and the other domains will assume that because that user was authenticated, everything is fine. On the administrator side of things, when the trust is initally created, you have to have the administrative password for the trusting and trusted domains. With all of that being said, in order to change the password on domain A, you will want to change the administrator's password for that domain. Same goes for B and C. But there is not really a set order that you need to do that in.

Order of setting trust is firt put entry of truted doamin and then trusting doamin.Password is not very neccesary thing.Even u can use blank password.Password ofr establshing trust is provided so that autherised peron knowing password only could set the trust. If u have a problem with trust u can break one and can create new one. Trust does not depend on passwords.

While there are passwords involved in establishing a trust, that is all those passwords are used for. Once the trust is established the trust mechanism internally establishes new system passwords for communications between the trust mechanisms.
This has nothing to do with any user/admin passwords.

So based on these answers, what we need to be looking at is changing the network administrator password in each domain. The easiest way is to change the password on the PDC for the administrator on each domain correct? Thanks for all the help!
