How to disable opposite side of multi-fu

By Natoid ·
This one is for you hearty Windows 95 developers of the world.

Say a user is using a mutli-function pc card, and due to security reasons, I don't want both sides of the card to function at the same. I want the network side to function, and, if the user needs to use the modem, the network side of the card becomes disabled. Upon releasing the modem, the network re-synchronizes with the LAN.

Any ideas?

Unless your into writing/building drivers, I'd give up on this one. The multifunction device is not capable of only half working. Your best bet is to set up a server with a fire wall etc. to use your modem or ISDN isolated from the rest of the network.

It's possible to use either the ethernet card, or the modem, if there are jumpers on the card that enable/disable the integrated devices. I've seen such card, but software disabling/enabling was impossible. However, as mentioned in the previous answer, Idon't see any security reasons to do that.

Also, IMHO, such cards are of extremely low productivity and therefore not reccommended.

You need to setup profiles. One which runs with the modem enabled and the other with the ethernet card enabled. Then you would have to log off and then on again choosing the profile you want to use. This of course all depends on the ability to disable any part of the mutli-function card. Go to the device manager and then click on hardware profile to set your profiles. Remember that you need to disable one of the devices first in order to create a profile. Then do the reverse.
