All you need do is go to the Microsoft Download center here

by OH Smeg In reply to How to Download Windows U ...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/AdvancedSearch.aspx

Enter the name of the Update and download it.

Of course you first need to know which Updates you need.

As for incorporating them into a Install Disc just use nLite available free here

http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

If you use nLite however first make sure to read the Directions for Use on their Web Site listed under guides here

It's a lot of work

You need to start with the system running before you reload it.

Open Windows Update select Custom and then on the bottom of the page look at your Update History.

Make a list of the Updates Applied and then go to the M$ Download site and download them all. There are lots of them in the Hundreds of Meg Size. as XP has been around for a very long time.

That's the only way to proceed here.

Don't Forget

by TheChas In reply to How to Download Windows U ...

Don't forget that for full security updates you need to look at a number of Microsoft tools and add-ons.

Internet Explorer. Which version will you finalize on and just get the updates for that version.

Direct X

Windows Media Player.

Net Framework, Visual Basic and Visual C runtime libraries, Data Access Objects, the list goes on.

Then, on the second Tuesday of each month, expect more new updates until support for XP ends in 2014.

Another thing to watch for is that some updates supersede older updates. You only need the latest version.

The Easy Way

The easiest method is to integrate Ryan VM's Update Pack using nLite.

I don't like taking exception with your answer. But, unless I am missing something, the update pack is 17 months old.
January 18, 2009

My Windows XP 32 bit update folder shows that I have downloaded 190 updates for XP since January 2009. This does not include IE8, Net Framework or other essential security updates.

Ryan's site and the concept of the update pack are great. It just is not a complete solution today.

Open Internet Explorer
Click ???Tools??? then click ???Windows Update???
Click ???Express???
Windows will search for the latest critical updates.
When the search is complete a list of high-priority updates will be displayed. Click ???Install Updates???
Windows Updates will be downloaded and installed
If prompted to restart, click ???Restart Now???
