How to give a non-admin user access to r

By cathyr ·
I want to give privilege to an ordinary user to run RAS Admin (at the console). He periodically needs to check whether the service is running, and who is logged in. I do not want to add him to the Administrator group. How can I do this? A thorough search of Technet and the usual NT manuals have yielded no clues.

Since you are talking about the console, give the user right to log on locally.

Or install the server tools on there desktop.

This will give them the server manager. Every thing that you want them to check can be found there using it. Select computer properties view who is connected, Select computer services to see if the service is running.

Server Manager is useless for this user, it will state all connections to that server, including all the connections from machines over the net. What you really need to give the user is the RAS Admin tool. If the user is running on an NT workstation, install RAS on his machine, that way the Admin program will be installed cleanly. If the user is running on W9x I don't know if the RAS Admin program will even work, but if it does, you will surely have to copy the exe and dll files manually. As to what permissions you will need to give the user, I'm not quite sure (experiment and check your event log for error messages).
