Have you got Windows on your system?

If you have any data on your hdd then do a backup first.
Next you will need to wipe your hdd (harddrive) with this:
DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/dban/files/dban/dban-2.2.6/dban-2.2.6_i586.iso/download
Save this to your computer.
You will need to burn this ISO format to a cd or DVD and then place this in your DVD/CD drive and then do a full shutdown. Reboot after ten seconds and then follow the instructions it will take a few hours depending on the size of your drive.
Or you could buy a second hdd and load on Ubuntu on that and have your old drive as a backup for your data.
Ubuntu is as easy to install as Windows, just a different code base that is all.
