How to keep video file after watching?

By Healer ·
When we watch video, be it from youtube or webcast or anything from the Internet, I suppose there would be a temporary file or something similar temporarily stored on the local computer. How can we retrieve them for keeps?

Well! I do not know how to identify the files. I think they do not have the file extension I would usually expect. I did try some files and they are usually not executable.

By the way, are they usually stored in the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp folder?

Yes youtube uses progressive streaming these days
In the Tools of internet explorer
internet options>browsing history>settings>view files>rightclick an empty space and view details will line them up descending then> sort by type scroll down to flash
it would be represented by a flash icon,
Some do some don't as mentioned above.
Chrome has an inbuilt downloader or google chrome youtube downloader google Chrome Extensions
Firefox as well has a flash downloader plugin Google Firefox Flash Video Downloader - Youtube Downloader

Thank you for the information. I manage to go to view the files. However they don't mean anything to me. Most of them are Internet hyperlinks.

I usually use Firefox. So there is nowhere to retrieve the files, isn't there?

If you want to do this frequently and general purpose

I would check out commercial screen video capture software and/or hardware. YouTube can be captured via plugin fairly easily. (there are even websites that do it for you)

Thanks! I am not using it commercially. Just a good feature to have, though.

Firefox tools

For Firefox and Chrome there are several add ons that will give you a click/save option in YouTube. In Firefox Google save YouTube Firefox. I think I use download helper. It does not have a 100% success rate. There are also YouTube to mp3 tools.

Now that I have told you how, Copyright violations are on you. But it is a good way to share a clip when you will be some place with limited/no Internet access.

What is on youtube should be in the public domain, otherwise it won't let us download or save.

if ua using ubuntu, follow the codes-

lsof | grep flash

this will result in some similar output to this--

plugin-co 5288 prady4 23u REG 7,0 19223376 618721 /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

then,
cp /proc/5288/fd/23 ~/Downloads

you gotta change the numeric terms as per your case.
