How to Monitor Instant Messaging?

By psifreak ·
An employee at work is under relative suspicion of constantly instant messaging instead of working. Does anyone know a solution to log recent key activity, or search of an instant messenger? My personal goal is that it be a one-target program or device. Novell network, XP Pro SP3 machines.

on the os-side.
remove all im messenger programs, or deny access to the executable files.
I do assume also that the person does not have admin rights on the pc.

on the firewall side, enable webcontentfiltering to block access to websites that run those programs through browsers. you could use for example "opendns.com" to block those websites categories if you dont have a firewall capable of doing website blocking.

and do introduce network policies in your company. techrepublic, zdnet and others have some on their website.
