can i monitor users on my nt server 4.0 and the time they usually log on and off the system.

You can go to the server icon in the control panel, and look at the users tab.
Or you could set up a performance monitor log, and record process.

You can turn on audit by using User Manager, Policies, Audit. Check on the corresponding Success/Failure box to monitor event such as logon/logoff. These will show up under Event Viewer - Security log.

Last answer is good. You can even use dumpel.exe from the resource kit to gererate a txt file filtered on the events you are interested in (529 for a failed logon/logoff, ...). Then you will be able to load that file with for example a spreadsheet and do some reporting.
