how to unlock an IBM disk

By javier ·
I have a IBM travelstar 20Gb disk, but it has a password, and is locked. Is there any way to clear this password, no matter if i lost the information on the disk, i just want to use the disk again.

how to unlock an IBM disk

the harddisk itself i've never heard of being able to lock. Are you possibly talking about a password lock in the bios?

If this is the case you need to clear the bios lock which just asks for a password before allowing booting or bios functions. the lock can be removed by many methods which are motherbaord specific. So you need to sheck ibm site for corrective actions for their motherboard.

the harddisk can be moved to another machine and reused with no problem.

hope this helps

I have moved to another machine but the disk is high security locked, the protection is not in the Thinkpad BIOS, but in the eeprom of the hdd.

As I understand, only IBM and toshiba notebooks locks the hard disk and can not be accesed even if you remove the disk and put it in another computer, because they secute the eeprom and you can not have acces to the information or the disk, you can not fdisk, wipe, or acces any way the disk.
I want to know if there is a low level formatter that erases the eeprom and let me have acces to the disk again,
I bougth this disk to a technician just to use the logic card to make another similar diskrun, but it don`t seem to be impossible to make the disk works again, I don`t need the information just the disk.
