How to use an external ip address inside a lan?

By Sceva ·
We have a laptop pc that controls several devices inside our local area network. Sometimes we take the laptop away from the lan. To be able to use it over the internet, we have to change the ip address of the devices being controlled to the public ip address of the network. To simplify things, is it possible to create some kind of redirection inside the lan so when the pc initiates a connection to the public ip address that it gets redirected to the correct local device?

We only have w2k and XP machines, and a couple of of the shelf routers and switches.
