HP color printer will not print YELLOW. Why not?

By jdesanto ·
HP Photosmart C4180 printer used mainly to print photographs.
New Tricolor ink cartridges will not print YELLOW. Other colors (cyan, magenta) print beautifully, as does the separate black cartridge.
Heads cleaned, cartridges cleaned, etc.
Still will not print Yellow.
Head alignment diagnostic says the heads are aligned corectly.
Any comments or suggestions?

The yellow could have run dry/empty or is blocked.

If so run this from the Maintenance Tab and see what it's telling you.

Obviously you need to make sure that the Yellow has ink in it and that it's not too old.

From my experience, the yellow runs out first. I have just changed the cartridge in my HP D1660 because the yellow had run out.

Manufacturer Ink?

by BreakFix In reply to HP color printer will not ...

Some printers don't like generic ink and have sensors on their manufacturer brand products. Try taking out the yellow cartridge and look for electrical sensors on the top - take a damp paper towel (not wet) and wipe them off. Did this just start happening?
