Hybird Network ??

By gli ·
Hi,

Is it possible to have a Point to Point T1 network in one city and then use VPN to connect to another city? Or does it all have to be VPN or P2P. Thanks.

Yes, no problem

At my company we have a PTP T1 to one location and a VPN to another location. We have a main office, another office 12 miles away and another 60 miles away. For the one 12 miles away we use a PTP T1 and the one 60 miles away we use a VPN. For the site 60 miles away we just put a VPN router at the main office and one at the site 60 miles away. Everything works great.

Big difference

by Lost_one In reply to how much of a speed diffe ...

The PTP T1 is a dedicated 1.5 Mbps connection and has alot of bandwidth. The VPN has a 512 Kbps connection on both ends and relies on internet connectivity. The VPN is considerably slower, but it is only use only for small file sharing, Email and Remote Desktop connection. The VPN works great for what we are using it for. I will be putting in another VPN connection to a new office about 750 miles away.

a couple of things

You could have one connection at your site and use a VPN over that connection and that doesn't change your connection, confused? Sorry but this one is sort of hard to write out yet it is fairly simple. You can use a variety of methods to connect to other sites and have one T1 connection or you can use one method for every connection, whatever you wish....

I hope I understood your question well enough to give a good answer.
