I can not see the new RAM

By dguttas ·
I have a P-5 100 from Gateway. I have NT Server running on it and I recently upgraded the RAM from 80 to 128 (32*4) but at bootup I still see 80 and in the systems properties I see only 80 megs what is happening. I am using 32 meg SIMMS. 72 pin non parity.

You probably want to check the Bios. The Bios stores this info and may not have updated. If you have already done this, check to ensure the new SIMMS will work with COMPAQ. Some of the older COMPAQs used non-parity SIMMS. Other COMPAQs are pickyabout RAM. The new SIMMS may not be compatable. Hope this helps. WDD

You have to run your EISA Configuration Disk that should come with the server from the first time. Everytime some Hardware change taht related to BIOS, you must run the disk so the PC will know that there is a change in the Hardware and save it to the BIOS. It's require on many server like Compaq, HP, IBM, etc. If you dont have the disk, I think you can download one from the server vendor. I know I can download one when I need from Compaq website for my Compaq Server.
I Have this problem several times and can fix it with the EISA Configuration disk.
Hope can help.

Have you modified your BIOS setup data accordingly?

So. Re-boot your system
Press <del> as the initial screen displays,
to enter the BIOS setup utility
Choose "save settings and exit."
It now should work.

(If the BIOS is non-standard, you may need
to press a different key to enter the BIOS,
and have to specify the new RAM amount, but
that should be all you need to change)

Not to be picky, but just wondering.

Does anybody else find it amusing that a hardware support question is in the NT section of the forums?

I wonder if it's because the more knowledgeable people are here, and the odds of an answer are greater? And all this support for free??? You know, I never thought I could help others as well as get help at the same place.
