I need an email notification of new virus threats

By stew34 ·
I prefer free, but will pay for a service, that just gives me email notification, when there are new threats out there.

I have tried these, but their emails are full of them trying to sell. I appreciate the response

Then subscirbe to only Feeds and Newsgroups

by Mehul Bhai In reply to Yes, but

Then only subscribe to RSS Feeds and Newsgroups whichever available from Symantec, TrendMicro, McAfee, Microsoft, etc. in your IE or E-Mail Client or RSS Reader, whichever applicable to you.
And at McAfee you can sign-up for McAfee Avert Labs Security Advisories at They don't have feeds.
Symantec and TrendMicro has RSS Feeds.

received a "Daily Digest" of new viruses today.

Informative, succinct, and free. What more could you ask for in an email notification? :)

But my boss doesn't like it. I don't know why. My search continues

You can not get bigger than "Sophos"...

by Peconet Tietokoneet In reply to I agree

These people know ALL about viruses, malware and spyware. This is the one stop to read all about what you want to know about the subject(s) in question. If at all possible, at least get your boss to read more here:

SANA @ Risk Report

I get the SANS@Risk report weekly from Qualys.

Gives a pretty detailed run down of new viruses.

Why, oh why, do you think you need this?

by Mr. Fix In reply to I need an email notificat ...

If your current anti-virus service is adequate, why would you need this information? If it isn't, just what can you possibly do about it that you're not already supposed to be doing?

Now, if you actually need to improve your security envelope and not simply suffer from information anxiety, what you really need to do is check out Panda antivirus, which claims to be able to identity undocumented viruses with 99% accuracy.

Incidentally, if your boss doesn't like the service you chose, I hope that it's because this is a total waste of your time.
