Sorry to tell you that this setup is just too slow to play mp3s. (Even if all other programs are shut down, the CPU is still busy with other "hidden" jobs!) If at all possible, I'd recommend updating to a newer motherboard & processor. (You may be able to reuse everything else.)

I agree the system is just too slow to handle the decompressing of the mp3 format...
I had tried a (from memory) P133 or P166 as a dedicated player, and just trying to get it to use windows and play mp3z were shocking...
I ended up using a dos player and it worked great.

So if you are interested to just use it for playing mp3z, ask me for the player and i can give you the name of it (maybe email it if i still have it) when you rate the answers.

Yep, I agree with the other 2, the machine is way to slow to properly uncompress mp3's. MP3's are not a plain 3-4 Mb file that is easily played. It is actually an extremely compressed file, and MP3 players have to uncompress the file into a 70Mb or so stream on the fly per song. Unfortunately even low end Pentiums are not up to the task. If you really want to play the songs on your computer, get a MP3 to wav converter and uncompress the songs to your harddrive. Your computer should then beable to play them glitch free, although you will require massive hdd space.
