IE and Netscape Problems

By matt.wong ·
Running IE 5.0 and Netscape 4.72 on Windows 98SE. When using IE, the web pages often come out messed up, showing part of the web page and showing some of the html code. Netscape does the same thing except that a message pops up saying "A Communications Error Occurred". I've tried clearing the temp internet files and disk cache, using the repair IE option, reinstalling Netscape. But none of these helped.
It's happening on multiple computers running either IE versions 5.0 and 5.01 and Netscape 4.72, 4.73, 4.75.

I've already tried MS article Q226550 but my versions of IE are newer, plus I have the problem with Netscape also. Someone suggested it could be a network problem where packets are being lost.

Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Thanks.

This might not have anything to do with either browser, other than being fed garbage!

I get tons of messed up pages from Excite and Yahoo; I suspect buggy html within advertising. One messed up tag, string or especially table, will screw the rest of the page.

That's what I suspect too.

Most likely a bad connection to ISP but more info is needed. How are you connecting..through Proxy, Router etc. what is the network NT? Need as much info as possible.

Just a little more info. I'm running a small LAN with about 50 other users. We have Win98 on the desktops and WinNT4.0 on the servers. We are running TCP/IP and connect to the internet with a Gauntlet firewall connected to a T1 line. The brower problem is with a couple of computers. Not all of them. Oh yeah, and the problem has occurred mainly on Yahoo, Excite, and Netscape pages.
