IE "Open in New Window" = maximized

By DAN_HAMMOCK ·
This is a more a program annoyance than a problem. Is their any way to make IE open a new window maximized when you right click on a link and select "Open in New Window." IE always open up a small window when you select "Open in New Window." Netscape always open the new window maximized but I like some of the other features in Internet Explorer.

IE 5.0; Windows 95

IE "Open in New Window" = maximized

by SyscoKid In reply to IE "Open in New Window" = ...

My gut answer is no, but this is a frequently asked question so I searched the net and these are some answers I found. I can't test any right now cuz we have IE4 at work.

"Ok first off instead of the right clicking thing I just hit the shift keythen click on the link. That opens the link in a new window in IE. When the window opens just use your mouse and drag the sides of the window. Make it the size you want. Then IE will always open windows that size. Hope that helps."

"If you got a 3 button mouse, you can DL software which can bind the maximize command to the middle button for example.. That's what I do."

"No, there is not (a common complaint)"

"Not sure you can make it fully maximized, but you can get close. IE will openthe new window in the same size as the last non-maximized window that was open when you last closed IE. Yeah, this is confusing. So, do this:

Close all IE windows except one.
Make this window not maximized.
Size it like you like it.
Close IE.Re-open IE. Maximize

I already knew about shift, click. The first suggestion did not work.

The last suggestion worked great(Close Resize). Thanks.

I do not think IE can open a new window Maximized as you described. By design, when you right-click a link and choose "Open in New Window," it opens in regular/small window to show that you are in one.

Fortunately, you can toggle function key F11to Full Screen/Regular Screen. If your window is maximed and you hit F11 for full screen, you lose the Title Bar, URL line and Status Bar. Hit F11 again, and you restore the regular window in maximize or small, whatever the status of the window before you hit F11.

Another way of opening a link without right-clicking the mouse to a new window is by pressing and holding SHIFT key and clicking once the link.

Enjoy!

Sorry, got cut off. Here's the rest:

"Close IE.
Re-open IE. Maximize this window now if you need to.

Now when you open a new link in a new window it should open to the size of the window that was open when you last exited IE."

after you maximize a new window, click file and close instead of clicking the "X" to close it, that should save it's last setting.

Tried this, no difference in selecting file close than "X"ing it.

I'm pretty sure there is a way to open new windows maximised but when you have it set like this the window will open without any toolbars up the top so your better off doing what the others said.

Your support of other people's answers is great.
