Illustrator-Corel Draw 9 conflicts?

By Cemetery Mike ·
I recently made the switch from Corel Draw to Adobe's Creative Suite 2. In the process, a font problem has arisen that I cannot solve, no matter what I try, concerning some Adobe fonts that have changed their name ever-so-slightly (thereby forcing an individual "font replace" command upon each and every use, with some still failing to appear as desired.

My question is this . . .

Has anyone heard of any conflict issues with installing both Corel Draw AND Adobe Creative Suite 2 (specifically Illustrator) on the same system? One of our computer service personnel seems to think there is - although this was just an opinion of his, with no facts to base it upon. There are a number of Corel Draw 9 files that aren't coming into Illustrator as needed (or designed) and - rather than have the headache of tweaking each on individually upon each first-time use - I would rather open them up in Corel, save them as .ai files and see if that does the trick. Failing that, I will export each one as a high-res PDF and go from there. Any and all help appreciated.

The most likely problem is that when you installed the Corel suite you also installed the Fonts from that and maybe even a few extra from the base install. You can actually try to install more Fonts than Windows can actually install so when you installed the Adobe Suite the most likely scenario is that the Fonts for Adobe where not installed so you are currently working off the Corel Fonts which may not be fully compatible with the Adobe ones.

You might have to uninstall some of the Corel Fonts and install the Adobe ones.

also,
there are no conflicts with having coreldraw and illustrator on the same system
the filetype associations for adobe's illustrator or the associations for corel ( depending on order of installation ) may need to be reset to use the correct app. but that is the only issue.
