Microsoft has a virtual monopoly on the desktop OS. It is proprietary and of course unpublished.
LINUX is the server OS of choice, followed by Netware, then MS. (For installations that need reliability.)
On the Hardware side, the product lifecycleis six months, so the technology, and the standards change every six months.
That is what keeps VARs in business.
They are the ones that have to keep up.
I would suggest finding one in your area.
(VAR is Value Added Reseller)
Also try www.varbusiness.com for information.
Regards, Chris

Ther is no set standared I takes looking at what you need the equipment to do, Budget, Location , and building your own standards for you needs, When I worked for the military We would review and list minimum requirements that new systems need to meet and what older systems need to be phased out, locations that only need e-mail and word processors dont requier the same systems and departments running auto cad, so building requiremts are a case by case bases.
