Install programs from Admin account

By jeff ·
I have 16 Windows 2000 Pro machines that I need to install Office 2000 on. I also need to make configuration changes to the computer - namely Power Option changes. The everyday users are students aged 6-13. Of course I don't want them to have admin priviledges. When Office 2000 is installed by a Local Admin account(machine admin, not domain admin) and the Power Options settings are changed the Student user account(which is a Windows NT domain account) cannot see Office icons and cannot inherit the Power Option changes made by the Local Admin account. How do I resolve this in the least time consuming way and/or the right way. I need the Student to see the Office install and the Power Option changes.

Thanks

Install programs from Admin account

by TomSal In reply to Install programs from Adm ...

Hi. If I'm reading you right you have installed Office 2000 by logging into the individual machine's local admin account, however you are on an NT-Domain based LAN?

Its that assumption that I give you this advice. Based on my recent experience ofinstalling Office 2000 on a Win 2000 Pro machine I logged into the machine with the DOMAIN ADMIN account. Then I installed Office 2000 on the system THROUGH the DOMAIN ADMIN account (I forget the exact words but you should see the system prompt about something regarding installing based on the admin account or if its just a local install - sorry I don't remember the exact wording...select the one for the user, or all users whatever it is).

Anyway this worked great for me. It installed for the user only the options I gave her because I was installing as a DOMAIN ADMIN. However when she logs in with her standard NT DOMAIN user account she DOES see Office 2000 as I configured it for her.

I had no problems with this method of install.
