Install Shield ****

By Datacon ·
I installed a demo on a laptop running win2000pro and then decided the program sucked and uninstalled demo and deleted the associated files. Now everytime I try to install a program the installer program for the demo starts up and proceeds to install the demo again. I have searched the laptop for the demo file and cannot find it anywhere, but everytime I try to install or update installed programs the demo starts up again. Help!

First go to www.Belarc.com, get the free Belarc Advisor, use it to locate the file the software is located in and delete the folder (click on the red asterisk (*) to the right of the installed program under the software inventory if present (you mayneed to first check the startup menu under msconfig and disable it if present or disable most, then try www.Lavasoft.de...Get Adaware6 from pcworld.com, install & run it to remove any hijacker or spyware installed that it finds.

You could try here to get info on each item in the startup listing to locate the offending software to disable so you can install those 2.

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

(remove any spaces, leave the 2 underscores though)

You didn't list the actual program so I couldn't tell you what to look for.

Normally, I will use the uninstall program that came with any app I install, if available. Windows Add/Remove Programs is spotty at best and normally does not remove all components.

PC World has a program that safely and COMPLETELY removes program components left behind. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/0,fid,17624,fileidx,1,00.asp
You MIGHT have to reinstall the app just to get a complete removal. Then run Regedit or download regclean to remove any entries that MIGHT have been left behind. No program is perfect, just some are much better than others.

Good luck! Let me know what your solution was. :)

Regards,
Jesse
