Installing windows 2000

1, under the i386 directory, you must type
x:\i386\winnt.exe not winnt32.exe (x is your
CD-Rom drive)
2, if it still does not work, make sure the system recognizes your CD-rom. Probably you have to install CD-rom driver if it is not supported by the windows 2000 startup disk.

if you still can not solve it, email me okey

good luck

Reading this question and your other question in this forum about DOS and FAT32 leads me to wonder what you're trying to accomplish.

The best way to install Windows2000 on a fresh hard drive is to create a W2K boot disk set (unless your CD will boot) and start from there.

If you were to start the install from DOS, the first thing it would have to do is re-boot a 32-bit OS so you haven't really gained anything unless you're trying to do a network install. In that case, you're still betteroff using W2K Remote Installation Service.

Win2000 was created to access 32 Bit applications and the newer 64 bit, which leaves DOS as a 16 bit application,so the operation will install from the DOS mode.

You can, first boot to dos, then cd to your cd rom

then type this: cd i386
which gives you
c:\i386>
then type winnt /b

that will install without making the floppies
it will copy what it needs to the HD and shoudl boot from there.
