Intel Pentium II / CPU Fan Problem

By tobrahs ·
I have an Eldorado 3 cpu fan, made by Silent Systems, that is broken. Once I removed the fan, the heatsink and a grey metal plate were attached to the processor. How do I remove the grey metal plate? It appears to be glued to the processor.

I am tempted to just pry it off but I thought it would be best to pose the question to those who may have an answer.

Is it okay to pry it off? Does anyone know how I can contact Silent Systems?

It has been my expierence to leave the glue on and buy a larger fan,you take a chnce on damaging the cpu.
The glue is difficult to remove, yet you can use a razor blade to cut around the metal to get a gap in the cpu and glue and then use a small screw driver to pry the heatsink loose.
Try this at your own risk

Honestly, I would leave the metal plate on, and buy a bigger fan. Put some heat sink grease between the metal plate on the CPU and the new fans metal plate. It should work just fine. Its better than damaging the CPU, which would cost a heck of alot more than a fan.
